This year we are pleased to welcome as our keynote speaker, Dr. Andrea Furlan, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and Staff Physician and Senior Scientist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. Dr. Furlan’s research focus is on treatments of chronic pain including medications, complementary and alternative therapies, and rehabilitation. She has also contributed extensively to Cochrane Collaboration reviews and as participated in the development of several pain management and opioid management-related guidelines. Dr Furlan is also a co-chair of ECHO Ontario Chronic Pain and Opioid stewardship.

Call for Nominations – President-Elect

The Toronto Health Libraries Association (THLA) is looking for a new President-Elect. This position is great opportunity for professional development, to meet fellow librarians and to help plan activities for the THLA membership. Come lend us your talents and be a leader in the health sciences library field!

Duties of the President-Elect:
The President-Elect shall act in the absence of the President, assist the President in the performance of duties, act as Programme Coordinator and perform other duties as assigned by the Executive. A three year commitment is expected for the position. Please see the THLA Constitution for more information.
You can nominate yourself or a colleague (written consent of the nominee is required) and include the names and contact information of two THLA members. Please send in your nominations by April 27th, 2017.

THLA Fall Social!

We are excited to announce that our THLA Fall Social will be held on Thursday, October 26th, 2017!

We will be meeting at The Duke of York, 39 Prince Arthur Ave, Toronto starting at 5:30 pm. The Duke is conveniently located just steps from the Bedford exit at St George station. Attendees at last year’s social will be happy to hear that we’ll have much more spacious seating this time!

Members are FREE! (Appetizers will be provided, just pay for the cost of your drinks) and the fee for non-members is $10 (payment can be made in person at the event)

THLA Summer Social – Board Game Night!

2016 Student Prize Winner

The THLA executive pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016/2017 THLA Student Prize competition is Mikaela Gray. Thank you for your submission and congratulations! We look forward to seeing you at future THLA events!

The THLA Student Prize was established to encourage future librarians to consider careers in health librarianship. The competition is based on submissions received in the fall, and is open to any student in good standing who is currently enrolled in the Masters of Information program at the University of Toronto.
