THLA JOURNAL CLUB

Come and enjoy great discussion and the best fresh food in town at Lola’s Kitchen for the second meeting of the THLA Journal Club!

Lola’s Kitchen

634 Church Street, Toronto

Thursday, April 24, 2014, 6:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tim Tripp will be leading our discussion about a paper that will definitely stir up some conversation:

References that anyone can edit: review of Wikipedia citations in peer reviewed health science literature

BMJ 2014;348:g1585 (Published 6 March 2014)

All you have to do is read the article, form some opinions about it, and come to Lola’s Kitchen for some great food, ready to talk.

To help you informally appraise the methods and findings of the study, we have put together a list of questions you can use (if you like) for most articles – with no math required!

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!

THLA Journal Club

You are invited to the THLA Journal Club

Come and enjoy some antipasti and wine at:

Pizzeria via Mercanti

87 Elm St, Toronto

Monday, February 24, 2014, 5:30pm

For this first meeting we’ll be discussing:

Boruff J, Storie D. “Mobile devices in medicine: a survey of how medical students, residents, and faculty use smartphones and other mobile devices to find information.” Journal Of The Medical Library Association. January 2014;102(1):22-30.

We’re planning to keep it informal, but here are some pretty broad questions we expect to ask the group:

  • Generally, what did you think of the paper? Strengths? Weaknesses?
  • Was the study design appropriate?
  • How was the survey response rate?
  • How representative was the sample?
  • How might this research apply to your user groups?
  • Could this information impact your library?
  • What new questions arise from this research?

If you are interested, please RSVP to Melanie.Anderson@UHN.ca

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!
